8. February 2018 - 14:54

Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence Jonatan Vseviov, who is continuing with his visit to the United States, met at the Pentagon with Under Secretary of Defense for Policy John Rood, and U.S. Secretary of the Army Dr. Mark T. Esper.

At the meeting with John Rood, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence discussed the current state of transatlantic relations and the next steps in reinforcing NATO collective defence.

‘At the NATO Summit taking place in July of this year, in cooperation with the United States, we expect decisions to be taken that reinforce the leadership of the Alliance and expedite the readiness of NATO joint forces to quickly reinforce the region militarily’, said Vseviov.

At his meeting with Dr. Mark T. Esper, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence stated that the increase in the presence of US ground forces in Europe, in support of the European Deterrence Initiative and NATO’s eastern wing, reflects the collective defence of the US and NATO.

‘Together with our Allies, we are closely monitoring the security situation in the Baltic Sea region and within the vicinity of the borders of the Baltic states’, added Vseviov.

NATO battlegroups under Allied command are currently stationed in the Baltic states, and the US has stationed an additional armoured brigade as well as a battalion battlegroup in Poland.
