Ministry of Defence undersecretary receives high decoration from Latvian colleagues

Today Latvian Minister of Defence Raimonds Vējonis bestowed the Medal of Honorary Recognition of the Latvian Minister of Defence on Estonian Ministry of Defence undersecretary for defence policy Sven Sakkov.
Sakkov received the medal, which is the highest one awarded by the Latvian Ministry of Defence, for his outstanding contribution to the development of the defence cooperation between Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.
“The undersecretaries for defence policy of all three countries’ defence ministries have worked together for years to strengthen security for all of us. Thanks to their activities, existing cooperation projects have been developed and possibilities for starting new projects have been sought. The cooperation between Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania is one of the cornerstones of our security,” said Vējonis.
The Medal of Honorary Recognition of the Minister of Defence is the highest decoration awarded by the Latvian Ministry of Defence, and it is awarded to recognize outstanding achievements in strengthening the national defence and security.
Servicemen from the United Kingdom, who are serving in Estonia within the framework of the presence of NATO, received mission medals at the ceremony held at the Ministry of Defence. Among others, a mission medal was presented to Colonel Giles Harris, Commander of the eFP Command in Estonia, who has been serving in Estonia since the arrival of the allied units in the spring of 2017.
Friday, Ministers of Defence from Estonia, Latvia and Denmark inaugurated Headquarters Multinational Division North, located at the Ādaži military camp, in Latvia. The purpose of Headquarters Multinational Division North is to enhance the defens capability of the region and connect the region’s forces with the Alliance’s highest Command Structure.
