Minister of Defence recognises instructors of national defence education with scholarships

Minister of Defence Margus Tsahkna confirmed the 2017 scholarships results for instructors of national defence education, in the framework of which 12 outstanding instructors of national defence education will be awarded a scholarship of up to EUR 2000.

2017 scholarships for instructors of national defence education were awarded to Taavi Tuisk (Kuressaare Regional Training Centre), Henry Lillipuu (Lasnamäe Upper Secondary School), Alar Olup (Keila School), Jüri Tõnisma (Paldiski Ühisgümnaasium and Tallinn Nõmme Upper Secondary School), Tiit Kaber (Tartu Vocational Education Centre), Andrus Kahr (Kiili Upper Secondary School), Kainar Kruus (Tallinna Secondary School of Science), Jaanika Ojakõiv (Oskar Luts Palamuse Upper Secondary School), Tanel Viks (Tallinna Mustamäe Upper Secondary School of Humanities and Tallinn German Upper Secondary School), Kuldar Kurvits (Narva Keeltelütseum and Narva Kesklinna Upper Secondary School), Rein Tammik (Estonian Nautical School, Kallavere Secondary School and Maardu Upper Secondary School) and Ahto Mäeots (Paide Upper Secondary School).

According to Minister of Defence Margus Tsahkna, each year more than 100 instructors of national defence education make a valuable contribution in order to ensure that national defence related knowledge and skills are passed on to thousands of school-age children.


“The patriotic upbringing of youth is important in helping to raise their awareness and understanding about out national defence and that it is possible to actually defend our country. National defence training in schools holds an important place in terms of expanding the general view of the world and increasing the will for national defence. Frequently, instructors of national defence education perform this work at the expense of their free time, which is why all instructors of national defence education, and not just scholarship recipients, deserve our thanks and recognition,” said Tsahkna.

The scholarship for instructors of national defence education is intended to provide motivation for and recognition of the best and most outstanding instructors of national defence education. A total of 20 applications were submitted for the 2017 scholarship for instructors of national defence education, from amongst which the best were selected by a committee comprised of representatives from the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Education and Research, the Defence Resources Agency and the Defence League. The scholarship has been awarded since 2015.

This year national defence education is being taught at 150 upper secondary schools and vocational schools).

Commander of NATO units serving in Estonia awarded mission medal

Friday, Ministers of Defence from Estonia, Latvia and Denmark inaugurated Headquarters Multinational Division North, located at the Ādaži military camp, in Latvia.
