Minister of Defence Luik: A full-scale military conflict may erupt at any time in Ukraine

Minister of Defence Jüri Luik noted that yesterday’s naval conflict in the Kerch Strait and the Azov Sea is yet another act of Russian aggression against Ukraine, which the international community must immediately takes steps to resolve.

According to Minister of Defence Jüri Luik, the situation is dangerous and a full-scale military conflict may erupt at any moment. Therefore, the European Union must implement additional sanctions against Russia and definitely send international peace observers to the region.

Luik stated that Russia has, since their completion of the illegal Kerch Bridge, impeded commercial shipping in the direction of the ports of Berdyansk and Mariupol, having now switched over to a full-scale sea blockade. They have also attacked Ukrainian military vessels. Both are clear signs of aggression.

Russia is suddenly ratcheting up tension in connection with the upcoming Ukrainian presidential election and wishes to take over control of Ukraine’s marine territory in the area. It is also possible that they are looking to expand their land conquests in Ukraine, especially in the area around Mariupol, said Luik.
