Defence Minister thanks US General for the presence of US units

Tallinn, 25 November ‒ During his visit to Estonia today, US Army Europe commander Lieutenant General Frederick Ben Hodges discussed the continuation of bilateral military cooperation with the Minister of Defence, Sven Mikser.  

Defence Minister Mikser expressed his gratitude to Lt. Gen. Hodges for the US Army presence in Estonia and assured him that the American troops who receive training here on a rotational basis have great symbolic significance for the Estonian people.

“The US armoured unit training on Estonian soil sends a clear message about the good relationship between our two countries as well as the effectiveness of NATO’s collective defence,” said Mikser.

According to Mikser, Estonia is prepared to provide good training opportunities in order to make Estonia an attractive area for NATO units rotating here. “We are prepared to provide the best possible host nation support in order to make it easier for contributing allies to come to Estonia,” said Mikser.

After meeting with the Defence Minister, Lieutenant General Hodges headed to Tapa to meet the US troops stationed there.
